Play Cuatro

To celebrate its fourth anniversary, one of the biggest Spanish TV broadcasters, Cuatro, launched in 2009 a completely new video portal. The website worked as a media center, with intuitive navigation and an unique user experience. Most of the channel's program grid was offered for free and on-demand, including the CNN+ live signal.

3D Mosaic Navigation

Play Cuatro

Cuatro is known for its playful corporative image and Flumotion maintained this visual style on the video portal. The main navigation was presented in a curved image mosaic with the logos of the programs. When scrolled sideways, the mosaic wall maintained the curved perspective, emulating a real 3D video wall. Their 3D character (on the right bottom corner of the mosaic) presented the highlights of the online service. So with one simple click, users could watch the last episodes of the main programs and series.

Premium online content

For Spanish viewers, it was the first time they could watch the huge success of the LOST series, completely free and on-demand. Some other well known programs such as "El Hormiguero", "Callejeros Viajeros" or "Super Nanny" could also be watched online.

Full screen mode navigation

Another design highlight was to replicate the mosaic navigation system when in fullscreen mode, allowing users to browse through the content without leaving the fullscreen mode. The platform proposed a new web user experience, with visual effects and transitions, emulating a Smart TV.

The website soon become extremely popular because of its innovative design and functionalities. It was one of the first TV broadcasters to offer online most of its content in Spain. The company discovered the potential of on-demand streaming and monetized it through video ad insertions.

Having worked 3,5 years as the Lead Designer for Flumotion and managing 2 other designers, I was responsible for managing the whole UI and design process in this project.
