Talking Tool

Talking Tool was a start-up idea that envisioned a language exchange social website targeted at any student that needed some oral practice in their studies. A group of teachers started this project back in 2010 and they were looking for funding. To help them in this process, I was called to create a simple website to explain the idea and engage their interlocutors.

Turning thoughts into images

Home page of Talking Tool's website

I was called to transform the idea of Talking Tool into images, colors and animations. I took care of the whole design process, designing the logo, the characters, the website, and creating the animation videos. The client wanted something vibrant, fun and visually appealing that reflected the idea of the project: language practicing in a global social network.

The website is a one-page design, divide into 2 main targets: students and teachers. In order to boost the viewer's engagement, written information is kept to a minimun needed and the focus of the website falls on the videos. It's a simple and effective way to explain a complex idea within 2 or 3 minutes. For that reason, we developed 2 videos for the website and in 4 different languages.

The website targeted at language teachers

Colors and characters

We chose green as the main color and blue as a secondary color, maintaining the characters in black and white to keep a more "adult" look and feel. A student and a teacher were created to be the main characters and several others played a secondary role as students from different countries.

I took care of the general UI / design process, designing the logo, the characters, the website, and creating the animation videos.
